Year-end review and 2025 resolutions: why it might not be the right time…

The end of the year is traditionally associated with an essential ritual: taking stock (financial, professional, personal) and making good resolutions.

Positive or negative, you have to go through it.

Everyone tells you that, so it must be true.

However, personally I have a slightly different, even completely opposite, view.

I think, and I'm even sure, that this isn't the right time for that. Well, not for everyone.

Ask yourself two simple questions .

  • Do you really need that right now?
  • Think you are ready for this now.

I'm not so sure about that, and I think you are too.

You have two options:

You are one of those people for whom 2024 was an exceptional year, full of joy, love, abundance on all levels, and brimming with success. You are therefore starting with a very solid foundation. New desires, aspirations, and challenges, undertaken with respect for yourself and others, are logical and beneficial. So yes, go for it, take stock and make some resolutions.

For everyone else:

The only thing I am certain of, having experienced it hundreds of times with my patients, is that an assessment can prove to be a very difficult, destabilizing, or even destructive moment.

Here's what makes me say that.

1. Why is this not the right time to take stock?

The winter period and the need for retreat

We are in the heart of winter. In Ayurveda, this is the season of retreat and rest, a time conducive to regeneration and introspection. Nature goes dormant. It doesn't take stock; it gently prepares for the rebirth of spring. Similarly, our bodies and minds need to slow down to recharge. Your root chakra is particularly active because it's its season. Therefore, you may experience a blocked root chakra.

It is an immutable rule of nature, which also concerns us humans.

Emotions still raw after the holidays

The end of the year is often filled with emotions: family gatherings, parties with friends, sometimes intense conversations… The "heart chakra" (Anahata) is under considerable strain, and memories, judgments, or tensions can resurface. You may have a blocked heart chakra.

The stress of returning to work.

It's also back to work, a source of additional stress. You might have a blocked solar plexus chakra or a blocked third eye chakra. As I tell my patients, to get things back on track, you never shake the coconut tree, because it has fragile roots (we live in the Caribbean 😉).

It's the same for a human being, for you in particular. You can't shake them up mentally and emotionally if they aren't firmly grounded and fully recharged. The result can be the opposite of what was expected... Sometimes a disaster!

2. So what do I propose?

To do exactly the opposite.

Stop putting so much pressure on yourself with your assessment and resolutions.

Instead, I suggest combining tools such as energetic aromatherapy, chakras, yoga or gym, meditation, breathing, and diet.

The goal is to create simple and effective rituals and routines to find and maintain deep and lasting grounding, alignment, and harmony.

You will regain the stability, strength, self-confidence, and mental clarity essential for truly understanding your situation and taking stock of your situation. You will then be able to consciously make choices, take decisions, and implement them.

This will happen naturally, without pain. You don't have to believe me, and I understand that perfectly. But having experienced it so many times with my patients, I know that when you are grounded and aligned, you are no longer the same person.

Here are the key points

  • Ground yourself. (Root Chakra) Replenish your energy reserves. Reconnect with the Earth, strengthen your foundations, conserve your energy.
  • Soothe and protect your heart. (Heart Chakra) Give and receive love, but also protect yourself, stay aligned with your deepest needs.
  • Calm your mind. (Third eye chakra) Let your mind settle, avoid overstimulation, prepare the ground for the renewal of spring.
  • Strengthen your stress resistance and personal power. (solar plexus chakra)

3. Practical program according to your availability

Because we don't all have the same schedule, here are three ways to integrate this grounding and calming work into your daily life.

Option 1: A few minutes a day

  1. The morning
  2. The evening

Option 2: A little more time for yourself

In addition to Option 1:

  • In the morning : practice a grounding visualization. Imagine your feet sinking into the earth, strong roots keeping you balanced.
  • In the evening : treat yourself to a few minutes of heart-opening meditation (heart chakra) or mental clarity meditation (third eye chakra). Let the color green or indigo fill your inner space, breathing slowly.

Option 3: A genuine need for change

If you feel that your emotional, energetic, and mental life is unbalanced on a daily basis, it's time to take a deeper step. You may be experiencing a vicious cycle where each imbalance feeds into the next (emotional, mental, energetic).

  1. Anchor yourself so that you are no longer swept away by external events.
  2. Align yourself to make conscious choices.
  3. Boost your energy and mental clarity : now is the time for comprehensive, daily work on your chakras, mindset, lifestyle, and wellness routines.

  2. Sit comfortably with your back straight and your feet firmly planted on the ground.
  3. Focus on your breathing , observing the air going in and out.
  4. Visualize the color of the chakra you wish to work on. Let it spread throughout your body.

       In just a few minutes, you will feel a sense of calm and a reconnection to yourself.

Yoga and gymnastics: focusing on the lower back and opening the heart

  • Grounding poses : Tadasana (Mountain Pose), Virabhadrasana (Warrior Pose), and all poses that strengthen the lower back and legs. Finish with Tree Pose (Vrikshasana).
  • Heart opening : Backbend postures (Bhujangasana/Cobra, Ustrasana/Camel) to release emotions and the rib cage. Go slowly and gradually.
  • Specific exercise : Don't forget to strengthen your core muscles (abdominals, spinal muscles) to support the root chakra and protect the kidneys (the central organ of vitality in Ayurveda). Do exercises to improve the flexibility and strength of your back, lower back, pelvis, and lower limbs.

Breathing:

It's vital. Work on your abdominal breathing. Release your diaphragm and solar plexus. These areas are very often completely tense or blocked. Start with simple exercises like inhaling through your nose, expanding your belly, and exhaling through your mouth, letting your belly contract. Then play with holding your breath during inhalation and exhalation. Also, work on breathing techniques specific to each chakra: lower abdominal (root chakra), diaphragmatic (solar plexus chakra), costal (heart chakra), sinuses, and cranial (third eye chakra). Play, test, feel, and integrate. There are no limits with breathing.

Mindset: How to reprogram your mind?

Our thoughts play a major role in our balance:

  • Sort your stimuli : If there's one thing you're in control of, it's this. You have the power to say yes or no. To do this, return to the present moment and ask yourself if a piece of information truly concerns you or if you can simply discard it without giving it any attention or intention. Prioritize: urgent (you acknowledge it consciously, deal with it immediately, and that's it), can wait (you set it aside and come back to it later when the time is right).
  • Change the record : replace ruminations with positive affirmations (e.g., "I am grounded and confident").
  • Clear your mind : treat yourself to real moments of silence (digital detox, walks in nature, relaxing baths…) to avoid information overload.

Appropriate nutrition

It's winter, so you need to add warmth to your diet to support your digestive fire (Agni). Focus on warm, comforting foods:

  • Soups, cream soups and stews : rich in root vegetables (potatoes, yams, carrots, potatoes…), lightly spiced (ginger, turmeric, cinnamon).
  • Warming herbal teas (fennel, cardamom, licorice) after meals.
  • Be careful with simple sugars , which can strain the spleen and cause mood swings and rumination. Also, avoid overly acidic foods and foods that taste too cold and damp.

Complementary therapies: who to consult?

A little help never hurts. Treatments must correspond exactly to what your body needs. It knows why it's become unbalanced and also what it needs. Whatever technique is used, it must address only this. Faced with this ideal response, your body will let go and correct itself. It will be overjoyed to be cared for, understood, and finally given the answer it's been waiting for.

  • Biokinesiology, osteopathy, chiropractic : for gentle mechanical work, ideal for the root chakra (bones, joints, spine, pelvis and especially sacrum).
  • Biokinesiology, acupuncture, reiki, kinesiology, energy massage : to release blockages and rebalance energy flows (ideal for all chakras, root, heart, solar plexus or third eye).
  • Bach flowers : to support emotions and mood.

The key is to find a therapist who can "read" your body and provide the answer it truly needs.

5. Make 2025 a great year

In summary, if 2024 was an excellent year for you, and you already feel stable and confident, then go for the review and resolutions of 2025.

If, on the other hand, you are experiencing doubts, emotional fatigue, mental stress or physical imbalances, take the time to ground yourself and recharge before shaking your "inner coconut tree".

5-point action plan :

  1. Don't put pressure on yourself with an assessment too early.
  2. Strengthen your grounding, say stop to stress, soothe your heart, calm your mind and say stop to overstimulation.
  3. Use concrete tools (Brevive chakra oils, meditations, yoga…).
  4. Develop a positive mindset and a suitable diet.
  5. Surround yourself with competent professionals for a deep rebalancing.

Taking stock and making good resolutions is wonderful… provided you do it at the right time, with the right foundations and solid energy. By respecting your own pace and relying on proven methods, you will build, step by step, a grounded, aligned, and meaningful 2025.
